Homer's epic poems

Homer is famous for his amazing epic poems. One of which was written about Odysseus and his 7 year expedition to Troy during the Trojan War. Homer, Greece's greatest 8th century B.C. poet, wrote about heros and their great deeds. Heros like Odysseus and his wife Penelope who remained faithful during Odysseus's 7 year adventure to Troy. The heros Homer writes about were expected to strive for excellence. Homer's writings explain the ideals that were tressured by the Greek ruling class.

Mycenaeans about 1450 B.C.

Around 1450 B.C. the Mycenaean people invaded the city of Crete taking it into the limits of the Greek world. The boom of the Mycenaean culture fell on 14 and 13 centuries B.C. Magnificiant palaces of Mycenae, Tirins, Pylos on Peloponese, Athens in Attica, Thebes and Gla in Beotia were built during this time. The Mycenaeans also used the Minoan palace Knossos to gain power on the city of Crete in Greece. Echo of the Mycenaean civilization power is the tradition about the great journey to Troy that was later shaped by Homer's great 8th century B.C. epic poems.

Minoans around 3000 B.C.

About 3000 B.C. the city of Crete was settled by people who more than likely came from Asia. These were people who by 2000 B.C. were already settling in citites and trading with other cities around the Mediterranean Sea, and creating hieroglyphic system of writing, which more than likely came from the Egyptians. This form of hieroglyphic writing is now linear script. The Minoans built the palace centers at Knossos, Phaistos, and Kato Zakros. These palaces dominated the Cretan society. I have no idea what language they spoke but, the spoke a non Hellenic language (which is a language that has no relation to Greek), and it was probably a non Indo-European language.
